CAARI is centrally located in downtown Nicosia convenient to government offices, the Cyprus Museum, the University of Cyprus, and the city shopping district. The institute is housed in a large, two story British style colonial villa. The ground floor consists of a reception lobby, the offices of the Director and the Executive Assistant, an artifact collection and communications room, a kitchen, utility rooms, and a library suite containing the Schaeffer Library which doubles as a lecture room seating up to 80 people, and the librarian’s office.


The Scholars’ Residence

CAARI Scholar’s Residence (The J.R. Stewart Residence), located on the institute premises, can accommodate up to 13 resident scholars at any one time. Annually, CAARI hosts over 130 different scholars who make use of the residence on both a long-term and short-term basis. Within a recent year, resident scholars represented 23 different nationalities including American, British, Greek, Italian, Australian, German, Polish, Israeli, Canadian, French, Danish, Swiss, Belgian, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch, and Cypriot, and the flavor is truly international.

The CAARI Scholars’ Residence is located on the second floor and consists of a spacious common room, dining area, a functional open-plan kitchen with access to two terraces, three double bedrooms (one with private bath), four single bedrooms, two unattached bathrooms, and a self-contained apartment for a long-term senior scholar. The kitchen facilities are available for use by the residents and include designated storage and refrigeration space. Bedding is provided. Lodging facilities for visiting scholars can be arranged for limited or extended duration.
